Collection: Mitaya

From an Avril Lavigne obsession whenever she was young- to having her own merch, an album, and countless singles, Mitaya's made an exciting adventure through music that almost seems like predetermined destiny. Mitaya’s music is a creative mix of pluggnb, rap, and pop. As Mitaya continues to evolve in her music, her dedication is clear, her journey is self-reflective, and her progression and growth are intense.
When Mitaya was 13, her dad gave her a guitar, and ever since then, she became obsessed. She would teach herself by watching hours of YouTube tutorials without stopping. "When my fingers would bleed I would wrap them up and keep practicing," She explains. Her dedication to her craft since then has been very clear, and this is where things had only just begun.
In high school, Mitaya was part of a band called Kudzu Kids where she got her first ever taste of success. “That was the first time I saw success. We were doing really well.” After the pandemic hit, she decided to start creating songs under the name Mitaya. When she first started music, she was unsure of what direction she was going to go with it in the future. She started by just recording over her friend's beats that they sent her. Her songs started getting numbers, and then about a year later her songs would be put on others' playlists, and she would get more attention, and more tastes of success. Over the course of time from her early soundcloud uploading days that weren't as polished to now, she now has a distinct style that she labels as "pluggpop." She describes this style of her music as "pluggnb beats with pop like vocals." Despite being known in the pluggnb scene, Mitaya expresses a want for change, and how she feels about identities and culture around the pluggnb scene in general. "I have a love/hate relationship with the pluggnb scene. ー I feel like so much stuff is centered around 'aura' and all that, but it's hard to maintain that image when I'm a very open book kinda person." She also states that she would like to take a different direction with her music very soon. "I'm putting out 2 more pluggnb EPs, but after that, I plan on shifting heavily towards indie music and pop. I want to write sappier songs and be myself a little more."  Being in a scene of people who do things to be mysterious, and have more "aura," she wishes to always be true and transparent to her fans, and not put on a facade.
Mitaya's hit single, "Your Heart," describes the mental battle of wanting to focus on yourself as a person, but also wanting to give in to the urge, and fall in love with somebody. "Your heart" is about indecisiveness as well, wanting to fall in love but not wanting to get in the way of your personal journey. "Sometimes even when I know I like someone- I still push them away because I know I'm still growing as a person."
Fans will not have to wait a very long time for something new, as Mitaya's new EP titled "Heaven" is set to drop on October 30th. This project is something that she holds very close to her heart. Mitaya states, "I am so excited for my next EP 'Heaven.' ー The songs on that project mean so much to me. Very real subject matter."
